  • AIRFARE is included from NEWARK TO SAN ANTONIO.
  • On arrival, TRANSPORTATION will be provided from the Airport to Hotel. 
  • Check in to the DRURY PLAZA SAN ANTONIO RIVERWALK for a THREE NIGHT STAY. The Riverwalk shines brighter than ever when the sun goes down as thousands of colorful lights are displayed along the banks to the tall Cypress trees.
  • Dinner is on your own this evening, with many restaurants located near the hotel.

Sunday, February 23

  • This morning, we will meet a LOCAL GUIDE for a CITY TOUR, including SAN FERNANDO CATHEDRAL, THE ALAMO, WALKING TOUR OF KINGtexasalamo WILLIAM HISTORIC DISTRICT, and a DRIVING TOUR.
  • Following the tour, you will have FREE TIME for lunch and shopping on your own at EL MERCADO.
  • This afternoon, enjoy a one-of-a-kind RIVERWALK NARRATED BARGE TOUR. These river boats are ecofriendly electric boats in vibrant colors inspired by Mexican folk art. This unforgettable experience reflects the sights, wonders and culture of a unique American city.
  • Tonight, enjoy a delicious TEX-MEX DINNER. Known as the home of the Ultimate Fajita and 60 oz. Margarita, Cafe Ole offers scenic views of the river and quaint indoor seating. Strolling mariachis are common accompaniments and add that extra touch, providing the perfect festive atmosphere. Ole'!

  • This morning, we will begin the day with a GUIDED TOUR of the SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS. This tour will provide you with an insider to look at what life was like in the 18th Century, and how these important religious sites have earned their status in the world.
  • Next, ADMISSION is included to the INSTITUTE OF TEXAN CULTURES. You will learn the stories of immigrants from around the globe who settled in Texas and contributed to what is today the 15th largest economy in the world.
  • This afternoon, you will have ample time to visit HISTORIC ALAMO, the site of the famous battle that helped secure Texas' independence from Mexico.
  • Tonight's DINNER is in a classroom, complete with a COOKING DEMONSTRATION. You will learn how to make the PERFECT ENCHILADA, paired with the PERFECT MARGARITA. This two-hour class includes cooking instruction where you learn to make Enchilada Verdes (chicken enchilada with tangy green tomatillo sauce) served with RICE, BORRACHO BEANS, handmade FLOUR / CORN TORTILLAS, and a NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE. You will also be instructed on how to make TWO POPULAR MARGARITAS and receive servings of both. The event ends with a fabulous TRES LECHES CAKE, and a SOUVENIR RECIPE CARD.

  • Before checking in to the hotel, we will make a stop at the VISITOR'S CENTER for a warm welcome.
  • Check in to the PEARL SOUTH PADRE RESORT, nestled on South Padre Island's best beach as its backyard and offers sweeping views of the Gulf of Mexico. The property offers an array of venues and activities to choose from in your free time such as water sports, dolphin tours, or just a relaxing walk on the beach.

Wednesday, February 26

  • Today, you will have a FULL DAY OF LEISURE to enjoy the beach, local attractions, and hotel amenities.
  • One of the most unique activities on South Padre Island is the SUNSET DOLPHIN CRUISE. South Texas is a year-round home to several large pods of dolphins. Share the thrill of meeting bottle-nose and spinner dolphins in the wild and experience the unique bond and kinship they inspire in mankind. Take in sunshine and salt air along with an educational presentation aboard the 60' cruise boat Double Sunshine.

Your naturalist will take you on an INFORMATIVE WALK at the Bayfront boardwalks with extra time to explore the nature center, a five-story tower with spectacular views of Laguna Madre, beaches and dunes of South Padre Island, the Gulf of Mexico, and the South Padre Island Skyline. 
  • Next, visit world-renowned SEA TURTLE, INC. Founded in 1977 by Ila Loetscher, better known as "The Turtle Lady," the organization has dedicated itself to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sea turtles. Sea Turtle Inc. is instrumental in bringing back the Kemp's Ridley sea turtle from the brink of extinction.texasturtle

Friday, February 28

  • After breakfast, we will say goodbye to South Padre Island and travel to CORPUS CHRISTI. Along the way, you will visit the largest ranch in Texas. The KING RANCH comprises 825,000 acres and was founded in 1853 by Captain Richard King and Gideon K. Lewis. The journey begins at the historic Santa Gertrudis Creek where Captain King first camped in 1852. Your LOCAL GUIDE will explain the history and the modern-day workings of the Ranch.texasranch

Padre Island National Seashore separates the Gulf of Mexico from Laguna Madre, one of the few hypersaline lagoons in the world. The park protects 70 miles of coastline, dunes, prairies, and wind tidal flats teeming with life. It is safe nesting ground for the Kemp's Ridley sea turtle and a haven for over 380 bird species. It also has a rich history, including the Spanish shipwrecks of 1554. 
  • There will be time here to stop by the Visitor's Center, take a stroll on the beach, and enjoy the scenic views of the Gulf of Mexico or the Boardwalk Nature Trail. texasbeach

Sunday, March 1

  • "THE GREAT STORM," the story of the 1900 hurricane that hit Galveston Island on September 8, has been digitally-restored from its 35MM slide presentation to an advanced wide-screen, high definition format. This 27-minute documentary shares the personal stories of survivors and the recovery of Galveston following the deadlisest natural disaster in United States history. This new HD version shows incredible detail and clarity in the black and white photos taken after the disaster and used in the documentary.
  • Experience the adventure of the high seas at the TEXAS SEAPORT MUSEUM, home of the texaselissacelebrated 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA. Explore the decks of this floating National Historic Landmark which has also been designated one of America's Treasures by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Walk ELISSA's decks and imagine the days when daring sailors challenged the world's oceans.
