GUIDED TOUR: Stroll through three shoulder--shoulder New York neighborhoods and piece together the different stories of immigration: from outsider tensions to economic prosperity of the growing Chinatown, shrinking Little Italy and long vanished Irish Five Points. Pay respects at the African Burial Ground in the midst of NY's courthouse district. Soak up the stories of the Sportin' Men and Hot Corn Girls of the early 1800s - the birth of urban street culture. Absorb the grime and grit of New York's original Gangs - the Dead Rabbits and the Bowery B'hoys.

Make your way into Chinatown, the most vibrant in America. Delight in the smells, sounds and sights of Peking Duck window displays, fresh fish stalls and pungent herb markets. Cross Canal Street into Little Italy and understand the struggles of the contandini melding their old world customs to this strange New World.

NYC WATERFALLS CRUISE: From mid-July to mid-October 2008, a major new work of temporary public art, the New York City Waterfalls, will be on display in New York City. The project consists of four monumental, man-made waterfalls installed for three months at four sites: one by the Brooklyn anchorage of the Brooklyn Bridge, one between Piers 4 and 5 in Brooklyn, one in Lower Manhattan at Pier 35, and one on the north shore of Governor's Island. The 90 to 120-foot tall installations, which have been designed to protect water quality and aquatic life, will operate seven days a week, and will be lit after sunset, adding a striking element to New York City's iconic skyline. Enjoy a one-hour cruise with exciting audio narration. Features on the cruise include the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Skyline, and the Waterfalls of New York City - so close you'll feel the spray!

STATUE OF LIBERTY: Located on 12-acre Liberty Island in New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty was a gift of international friendship, freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886 and designated a National Monument on October 15, 1924. The Statue was restored in time for her spectacular centennial on July 4, 1986.

To better understand this monumental work of art, visitors will be able to view inside the Statue through a glass ceiling, guided by a park ranger and an enhanced lighting and new video system. In addition, visitors will once again be able to walk out onto the Statue's observation deck to see the panoramic views of New York City and the Harbor and witness the Statue up close from her promenade on Ft. Wood.

ELLIS ISLAND: Ellis Island is a symbol of America's immigrant heritage. For more than six decades - 1892 to 1954 - the immigrant depot processed the greatest tide of incoming humanity in the nation's history. Some twelve million people landed there, today their descendants account for almost 40% of the country's population. Opened on January 1, 1892, Ellis Island ushered in a new era of immigration with each newcomer's eligibility to land now determined by federal law. The government established a special bureau to process the record numbers that were arriving at the end of the 19th century. Fleeing hardships such as poverty and religious persecution, they journeyed to the United States in search of freedom and opportunity. More the 70% landed in New York, the country's largest port. First and second class passengers were processed on board ship, but third class were ferried to Ellis Island where they underwent medical and legal examinations in the Main Building.
