The quintessential Switzerland experience awaits on this 11-day roundtrip tour through Zürich, Lucerne, Lausanne, Zermatt and St. Moritz.
Combine the relaxation of train travel with the comfort of scenic drives on this journey through the storied cantons of Switzerland. The tour begins in the city of Zürich, the place where you meet your Tour Manager and the rest of your fellow travelers. Converse over the tour's welcome dinner, and learn about the excitement to come. We spend the next two days traveling to nearby attractions, such as Vaduz in Liechtenstein and Lucerne. We continue on by train through the towns of Interlaken and Montreux before arriving in Lausanne. Optional excursions and planned activities give each traveler a customized Swiss experience while moving through the country. The group visits Zermatt, Gornergrat, St. Moritz and, finally, Tirano, Italy before returning to Zürich for the return flight home.
Sunday, June 10 – Arrival in Zürich
Welcome to Switzerland! Arrive at the airport and transfer to the hotel (normal check-in times apply). Transfer will accommodate flights arriving into Zürich before 10:30am. The rest of the day is yours to relax or begin exploring the city independently. Meet back at the hotel this evening for a WELCOME DINNER with your TOUR MANAGER and fellow travelers. Overnight in Zürich. (D)
Monday, June 11 - Liechtenstein
Today, we will travel through some of Switzerland's most renowned cantons on today's scenic drive to the Principality of LIECHTENSTEIN. The eastbound journey to the capital city of VADUZ is just over an hour in length and is filled with the beauty of the ever-changing landscape. Upon arrival, the afternoon is yours to explore the area at your leisure. We reboard the motorcoach for the return journey home this evening. Overnight in Zürich. (B)
Tuesday, June 12 - Lucerne
Today, journey by TRAIN from ZURICH to LUCERNE. Lucerne is one of Switzerland's most idyllic medieval cities, surrounded by a beautiful lake and nestled amidst snowcapped Alps. The rest of the day is at your leisure to discover the delights of this charming city or to join one of the optional excursions. Overnight in Lucerne. (B)
Wednesday, June 13 - Lucerne to Lausanne by train
We depart Lucerne this morning aboard the LUCERNE-INTERLAKEN EXPRESS. The train crosses Brunig Pass en route to Interlaken, where we will stop for a visit. From Interlaken, the BLS REGIOEXPRESS takes us to the city of Zweisimmen. Continue on the GOLDENPASS PANORAMIC train to Montreux, then we pass through to the Lausanne area. Overnight in Lausanne. (B)
Thursday, June 14 – Montreux and Zermatt
This morning, we will depart for the delightful Swiss mountain resort of ZERMATT. En route, we will make a stop in the town of MONTREUX, which is situated on the shores of Lake Geneva and known as the “Swiss Riviera.” Spend the day leisurely walking along the lakeside promenade, hike through the surrounding hillside or visit Chillon and its castle. Late in the day, we again set off on the rails bound for Zermatt. Overnight in Zermatt. (B, D)
Friday, June 15 – Gornergrat Railway
We set off aboard Europe's second highest rack railway for a group trip to GORNERGRAT. From the top, look out over soaring mountain peaks and the surrounding localities. We return to Zermatt for a day of leisure; spend your time winding through the city's narrow streets to uncover interesting shops, charming cafés and much more. Overnight in Zermatt. (B)
Saturday, June 16 – Glacier Express
All aboard the iconic GLACIER EXPRESS, perhaps the most famous rail line in the world, for a trip to ST. MORITZ. Along the way, glimpse out over the unspoiled beauty that the Swiss Alps offers, including mountains, valleys, gorges and vast open spaces. We cross nearly 300 bridges and pass through 91 tunnels on this journey to the world-famous mountain resort of ST. MORITZ. Overnight in St. Moritz. (B, D)
Monday, June 18 - Zürich
We leave St. Moritz this morning for the train journey back to Zürich (standard class between Samaden and Sagliains). Upon arrival, get in touch with the unique offerings of the city on a tour of Zürich. Stops along the way include the Bahnhofstrasse shopping district, various important buildings and churches. We see the world-famous masterpiece by Marc Chagall, a five-part stained-glass window series, on the tour and learn about the importance of banking in Zürich. Tonight, the group joins for a FAREWELL DINNER at a local restaurant. Overnight in Zürich. (B, D)
Tuesday, June 19 - End of Tour
Your Swiss experience ends this morning following BREAKFAST at your hotel. We will transfer to Zürich Airport, where you bid adieu to your fellow travelers and board your plane for the RETURN FLIGHT home. Transfer will accommodate flights that depart Zürich after 10:00 am. (B)
